What you need to know:

  • Forward George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo, who is in his third stint at K’Ogalo, netted his first league goal in the 12th minute since rejoining the Kenyan giants after being released by Tusker in the last transfer window.
  • Boniface Omondi added the second of the day in the 85th, this being his second league goal also since rejoining Gor after one spell with Wazito last season.

Gor Mahia on Friday moved top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League after edging out newbies Vihiga Bullets 3-0 at Bukhungu Stadium.

Forward George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo, who is in his third stint at K’Ogalo, netted his first league goal in the 12th minute since rejoining the Kenyan giants after being released by Tusker in the last transfer window.

Boniface Omondi added the second of the day in the 85th, this being his second league goal also since rejoining Gor after one year away with Wazito.

Former Kariobangi Sharks midfielder Peter Lwasa added the third in added time as Gor scooped maximum points away.

Gor have now amassed 17 points from seven games, same as Kakamega Homeboyz, who have an inferior goal difference after salvaging a 2-2 draw against struggling Mathare United on Wednesday.

This was the eighth loss for Bullets who are in their maiden season in the top flight league after earning promotion from the National Super League at the start of the season.

Due to a string of poor results, the club was forced to sack former coach Evans Mafuta in November but even after bringing on board veteran tactician Juma Abdallah, their fortune on the pitch is yet to change.

Bullets lost 3-1 to last season runners up KCB in his first game in charge on October 31.

They are at the bottom of the 18 table-team on one point picked from their barren draw against Bidco United in their first game of the season on September 25.

K’Ogalo were returning to the local scene after being eliminated from the CAF Confederation Cup play off stage by AS Otoho d’Oyo of Republic of Congo.

The record league champions exited the continental ties in the playoff stage for a third year in a row after losing 1-0 a way and being held by the Congolese side to 1-1 draw at Nyayo National Stadium last weekend.
