Football Kenya Federation (FKF) presidential candidate Herbert Mwachiro has urged the Electoral Board to set up a meeting with all candidates so as to discuss the roadmap for the forthcoming polls.

Mwachiro is among five candidates cleared yesterday to contest for the football body's top seat in the national elections set for October 17.

The exercise will be proceeded by the county elections set for September 19.

Other candidates for FKF’s presidency are incumbent Nick Mwendwa, Lordvick Aduda, Dan Mule and Bonface Osano.

"I expected it (to be cleared). Now the Board should release the guidelines for this exercise so we now how to prepare. We should have a roundtable meeting to discuss the roadmap," said Mwachiro.

Osano and Mule have also expressed faith in the Electoral Board, which is chaired by Kentice Tikolo, while Mwendwa is on record as saying that he is certain of re-election.

"There are those complaining about the board, saying it is based at the federation’s headquarters, and that is not fair. Even if we relocate the board members, they will still complain, they do not want elections," Mwendwa said in a recent interview with NTV.

"I'm now campaigning in Mombasa. The board is doing a good job so far. I hope the court cases (affecting the elections) are done away with so we finish this exercise once and for all," added Mule.

At the same time, six out of the 10 candidates seeking various National Executive Committee (NEC) positions are unopposed.

They are Davis Chege (Central), Muriithi Nabea (Eastern), Tony Kweya (Western), Gabriel Mughendi (Mombasa) and David Bunei (Lower Rift Valley).

In the other regions, Michael Ouma, Tom Onyango and Isaac Macharia will vie for the Nairobi seat, Joseph Andere and Laban Jobita will tussle for the Nyanza slot, Ahmedqadar Mohammed and Mohammed Abdi Farah are vying for the North Eastern slot, while Upper Rift will see Bernard Korir and Nyongesa Masinde vying.

The  battle for NEC women representative position has attracted Violet Kerubo, Sally Bolo and Margaret Omondi. The NEC is the federation's highest decision making organ.

FKF elections have been marred by a number of court cases in the past year, with presidential aspirants Sam Nyamweya, Twaha Mbarak, and Nicholas Musonye boycotting the exercise altogether.
