Justify clips Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course
What you need to know:
- Justify secured his Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, a fortnight ago.
- Trainer, Bob Baffert, was longing for the wire to come quickly.
Justify (Mike Smith 1-5), trudged through more sloppy, hazy, conditions to win the 143rd running of the Preakness Stakes on Saturday at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore.
Justify has now bagged part two of the Triple Crown, having secured his Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, a fortnight ago.
He was followed by Good Magic, Quip, and Lone Sailor, until they flopped away to allow Bravazo and Tenfold, to take place positions. Eight ran Justify earned a cool $1.5 million in that 1:55:9/10 seconds, over 1 mile 3 furlongs.
For those who backed him at odds on, it must have been a worry, because it was terribly tight half-length.
Trainer, Bob Baffert, was longing for the wire to come quickly.
Third leg is the Belmont in Elmont, New York, June 9.
