Kenya’s world marathon record holder Brigid Kosgei has implored Kenyan athletes to take advantage of today’s Kip Keino Classic to assess their post-coronavirus shape.

The Kip Keino Classic is a round of the World Athletics Continental Tour and will be held at the Nyayo National Stadium.

At a press conference in London on Friday ahead of Sunday’s London Marathon, Kosgei said Saturday’s meeting is a welcome opportunity for athletes to test their physical and mental shape after a long lay-off.

“I want to wish all the athletes competing tomorrow in Kip Keino Classic at the Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi all the very best as they gauge their performances after a long break due to the virus,” the defending London Marathon champion told journalists in a virtual press conference.

This will be her first marathon since she broke the world record at the Chicago Marathon last year after clocking two hours, 14 minutes and four seconds.

“It has been a long journey and I’m happy because I will be competing again on Sunday as I look forward to defend my title after two months’ preparations back at home in Kapsait, Elgeyo-Marakwet County,” the mother of twins said.
