  • In girls football final, regional champions Tartar Girls Secondary School stopped Butere Secondary 2-0 to win the title.

Kakamega High School, better known as “Green Commandos”, are this year’s Nzoia region secondary schools football champions.

Kakamega High beat Chavakali 3-0 in a fiercely-contested final at Kakamega High School Ground.

Kakamega, who went through the championship unbeaten, scored through Eric Ouma in the 27th minute, James Mazembe (34th) and Alfred Wekesa (57th) in the match that was graced by the Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Vice Chancellor Prof Fredrick Otieno.

KAKAMEGA'S PATH

Earlier in the semi finals, Kakamega eliminated Amukura 4-0, while Chavakali Secondary School silenced Chesamisi 2-1.

Three-time national champions Malava Girls beat rivals Lugulu 3-1 (25-15, 22-25, 25-23 and 25-13) in a tough volleyball final to emerge champions.

Malava, who failed to go past the Kakamega County Championships last year after losing to Mautuma Secondary School in the finals, were stretched to four set scores before winning.

In boys’ category, regional champions Malava beat St Mark Cherangani 3-0 (25-14, 25-18, 26-24) in the final to retain the title.

“The Boys played according to instructions. There was proper co-ordination and team work. They underwent serious training while preparing for the games,” said a visibly-happy Malava coach Shadrack Tavoko.

In girls football final, regional champions Tartar Girls Secondary School stopped Butere Secondary 2-0 to win the title. The victors scored through Ruth Chebungei who found the back of the net twice.
