Mr Juma, who later contracted Covid-19, was on Thursday freed from an isolation centre after he completed 14 days mandatory confinement.

The Kenyan Embassy in Ethiopia said Juma, whose real name is Collins Juma Osemo, was "free to return home" after his release from police custody and from Woreda 7 Health Centre, where he was in isolation.

"Juma was discharged on Wednesday 26th August 2020, following appeals from Kenyans and the intervention of the government which was spearheaded by the Embassy in Addis Ababa.

Officials of the Embassy in Addis Ababa, while visiting him to check on his welfare, at Woreda 7 Health Centre, were informed by the health worker that in keeping with the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) guidelines all asymptomatic patients are “deemed cured” after the mandatory 14 days of isolation.
