A businessman collapsed and died at a Thika club where former Juja MP George Thuo met a similar fate last year.

Mr Bedan Njoroge, 38, was drinking at Porkies Pub with friends on Sunday night before he complained that it was getting hot and went out.

His relatives said he called a taxi to take him to a hospital, but before the driver arrived, he collapsed outside the club.

Other patrons rushed him to Thika Level Five Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

MURDER CHARGE

Mr Thuo collapsed and died in the same pub last year.

The owner of the pub and five other people have since been charged with his murder.

Mr Njoroge, a father of two, is the grandson of Jogoo Kimakia, a famous businessman in Thika who pioneered public transport and real estate in the area.

Thika sub-county police boss Shedrack Maithya said the death was being investigated and detectives were working with the trader’s family.

“We have received several reports of people having their drinks spiked at the same club, but no death has been reported,” he said.

HEART DISEASE

The businessman’s relatives said he was under medication for a heart disease and the family may not pursue the matter with the police.

“As a family, we are against too much publicity concerning the matter and do not wish to blame anyone,” he said. “We want the matter to rest.”

Mr Njoroge owned a transport business. He is survived by a wife and two children.

Revellers expressed concern over the “notoriety” of the pub with some calling for its closure.
