Sniffer dogs to join fight against drugs

The anti-drugs agency will import highly trained sniffer dogs to help in the fight against drug and substance abuse.

“We shall source for a trainer from Israel who will train local police dog handlers on effective ways to guide a dog around a suspect drug haul at an airport bay or in the streets,” said Mr Mututho.

The Nacada boss said they will propose to Parliament some of the punitive ant-drugs laws practised in Israel which they wanted replicated in Kenya.

He said some of the laws were “good”, key among them risking a jail term of upto 25 years for peddlers introducing drugs and other hard substances to persons under the age of 18 years.

“Introducing drugs to young people is one of the worst crimes in Israel and I believe if adopted in Kenya, it will be a milestone in the fight against drug and alcohol abuse in the country,” said Mr Mututho.
