A Nyanza MP in his second term was embarrassed during a recent trade unions’ meeting in Geneva. The MP, who sat near the wife of a popular trade unionist, received 12 videos from one of his staunch supporters. Thinking the matter might require his attention, he opened them. To his dismay, they were pornography. With his phone volume at maximum, the videos began playing to the shock of the trade unionist’s wife. Feeling embarrassed, he struggled to turn off the video before excusing himself to go out and delete them. He has now vowed to block the sender of the videos.

OKA leader’s talks with Ruto collapse

The prospects of a coalition between a One Kenya Alliance principal and DP William Ruto have apparently collapsed on the weight of his demand to ring-fence his perceived stronghold. The DP reportedly told him there was no guarantee his party would win majority seats there even if the request were to be granted. The OKA chief wanted UDA not to field candidates in his region as a precondition for backing the DP’s State House bid. But Ruto is keen on fielding candidates countrywide so that in the event his bid fails, he can use UDA’s parliamentary strength as bargaining chip.

Lawyer’s Senate bid faces headwinds

A senior politician at the weekend shocked his handlers and party officials when he declared that a lawyer seeking a senatorial seat in his party will be lucky to win its ticket. The senior politician is said to have been angered by how the advocate has been dishing out money to key members of his party and close family members so that they can push his agenda to win the ticket despite being a johnny-come-lately in the party. However, what stood out was the fact that he claimed the man has been defending his enemies in court and must be dealt with promptly at the party primaries.

Nepotism mars agency’s promotions

Just what is happening at a parastatal in the Health ministry? Well, this column is reliably informed of how job promotions are done to suit individuals from a region where one of the bosses comes. Some employees have been favoured to an extent of jumping up to five positions. Interestingly, those who benefit are now the bosses of those who, just recently, trained them on the job. Unless things change, some of the senior employees who have been overlooked have threatened to sabotage the public insurer. Others want the ministry and Parliament to ensure justice is served.

Deputy governor out to fix his boss

A Mt Kenya deputy governor, who is fighting with his boss,  has planned a series of leaks against the county chief as the war between the two escalates. The two, who are entangled in a fight at the assembly and corridors of justice, do not see eye to eye and their differences are irreconcilable. But the deputy governor, who has taken political heat recently, is planning to go on the offensive with leaks showing misappropriation of funds by the county executive. Some of the details were leaked over the weekend, with more expected this week. It’s about to get nasty.

Controversy rocks Sh2m for riders

Some Sh2 million given out by a top State House contender to boda-boda operators in a sub-county in Mt Kenya East has turned out to be a major campaign issue. The money, which was reportedly handed to two legislators, has become a subject of controversy, with opponents claiming that the two MPs have pocketed the money. Allies of the two legislators have, however, insisted that they are working with chairpersons of boda-boda operators’ groups to figure out how to share the cash. The matter has turned so sour there are fears the cash may have to be returned to the giver.
