Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua’s party Maendeleo Chap Chap has supported the proposal to pass the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) without amendments.

The party has cited devolution gains, including the Ward Development Fund, as the main reason for supporting the proposal.

Speaking during the party’s National Governing Council Members meeting at Alfred Mutua 2022 Campaign Logistics Centre in Mavoko, the governor urged politicians not to twist the BBI proposals.

“Our party supports the strengthening of devolution because of the proposal to increase county allocations to at least 35 per cent. The move will boost development and empower ordinary citizens across  the country,” said Dr Mutua

“Let us pass the report as it is and make other changes in the future,” added the governor.

Support the BBI

He said the party’s National Governing Council had extensively deliberated and agreed to support the BBI report in principle even as they await the final draft to be gazetted.

At the same time, Dr Mutua has been endorsed by the party's governing council to vie for presidency in the 2022 general election.

The council also resolved to begin recruitment of aspirants for various elective positions across the country. The governor said the party has decided to embark on grassroots mobilisation to recruit members at ward levels.

"Our party structures at polling station, ward, constituency, county and national executive council levels shall be immediately revamped," he said.

Dr Mutua added that Kenyans are not interested in meaningless talk but development, adding that if implemented, the BBI recommendations will bring the desired results.
