UDF leader Musalia Mudavadi Sunday denied media reports that he turned down an offer to join the government as a Cabinet secretary.

Mr Mudavadi said he had never sought a public appointment.

He said he had been on the forefront in calling for an all-inclusive government.

“I don’t know where the reports are coming from. My push has been for an all-inclusive government to promote national cohesion. This has finally been realised and it is commendable,” said Mr Mudavadi. He spoke at his home in Sabatia, Vihiga County.

Elsewhere, Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale told New Ford-K Chairman Eugene Wamalwa to decline his appointment as Water and Irrigation Services Cabinet Secretary.

POLITICAL GIMMICK

Dr Khalwale said the appointment of Mr Wamalwa by President Uhuru Kenyatta was a political gimmick meant to hoodwink the Luhya community. He was addressing mourners during the burial of Prof George Eshiwani in Mulwanda Village, Khwisero, Kakamega County, on Saturday.

Dr Khalwale urged Mr Wamalwa to join Cord “in agitating for good governance and seeking leadership change”. “Mr Wamalwa has been appointed to head a mere department of water and irrigation split from a docket held by Prof Judy Wakhungu,” he said. However, Mr Mudavadi criticised Dr Khalwale, among other politicians, for saying Mr Wamalwa’s nomination was aimed at dividing the Luhya vote.

“I congratulate him (Mr Wamalwa) for his appointment. The President should have appointed the former Justice minister into his government earlier,” said Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba in Busia County.
