Amani Coalition presidential candidate Musalia Mudavadi conceded defeat on Friday.

Addressing the Press, Mr Mudavadi said it was clear that the race could only be won by either Mr Uhuru Kenyatta of the Jubilee Coalition or Mr Raila Odinga of Cord.

“The votes counted indicate that we are coming third and there can only be one winner,” he said, congratulating Mr Kenyatta and Mr Odinga for garnering a majority of the votes.

Mr Mudavadi thanked his supporters for doing their best during the campaigns, even if they did not emerge winners.

“We are not winners for now and I appeal to you to keep the faith as we look to the future with hope” he said.

Popular democracy

Mr Mudavadi, who first became the Sabatia MP in 1989, said the manner in which the elections were conducted was a demonstration of universal and popular democracy.

“So far, Kenyans have had their say without fear, favour, ethnic or regional strife. As a result, our democratic experiment under the new Constitution is much stronger today than it was a few weeks ago,” he said.

Mr Mudavadi, who became second to conceded defeat after Eagle Coalition’s Peter Kenneth, asked IEBC to do everything possible so as not to appear to be causing anxiety through acts of omission or commission of the final results.

He was accompanied by his running mate Jeremiah Kioni, Mr Gideon Moi and Mr Boni Khalwale.

Mr Mudavadi assured the winner that he and his supporters would support him, and on who to support in case of a run-off, he said members of his coalition would have to consult so that they can reach a unanimous decision.
