I haven’t seen Duale censure motion, says deputy Speaker

What you need to know:

  • Kieni MP Kanini Kega said he submitted the document to the Office of the Speaker last week but had neither received a response nor seen it listed on the Order Paper.
  • She is currently running the affairs of the National Assembly, in the absence of Speaker Justin Muturi, who is in the US on an official trip.

The fate of the censure motion against Majority Leader Aden Duale was thrown into confusion after Deputy Speaker Joyce Laboso said she had not seen it despite its sponsor saying it had been forwarded to her office.

Kieni MP Kanini Kega said he submitted the document to the Office of the Speaker last week but had neither received a response nor seen it listed on the Order Paper.

“I made an enquiry in all offices and didn’t get to see it,” he told the House in the afternoon yesterday.

“I have not seen it and I just want to have an assurance that it is not lost somewhere.”

He sought an assurance from the Speaker’s office that the motion would find its way into the House.

Dr Laboso, however, said she too had not seen it in the Speaker’s office. She is currently running the affairs of the National Assembly, in the absence of Speaker Justin Muturi, who is in the US on an official trip.

“Should it find its way to the Speaker’s office, it shall be dealt with in accordance with our rules.

“That is an assurance that it has not reached us,” she said as she urged the MPs not to get excited.

“If it meets all the rules, it shall find itself on the floor of the House.”
