“John Kararu Wangui, a police officer, has been cleared to face his accusers,” State counsel Tumaini Wafula told Mr Justice Nicholas Ombija.

“Doctor Zephania Kamau has cleared him. Let him plead to the charges today (Wednesday),” Ms Wafula said.

Mr Kararu, who is being treated at Kenyatta National Hospital after he was attacked by a crowd that witnessed the alleged shootings, denied killing Ms Esther Njeri Giathi and Mr Ali Mwamburi Abdallah at a bar in Kawangware, Nairobi, on September 18, 2011.

Mr Justice Ombija directed that the suspect be remanded in Industrial Area prison and fixed the case for hearing on February 15-16, 2012.

In the same court, a guard accused of murdering a Kiambu secondary teacher has denied the offence.

Mr Miseyeki ole Mollel was declared fit to stand trial.

“The suspect is fit to stand trial for the murder of John Muturi Kariuki,” Ms Wafula told the court.

The hearing is February 13/14, 2012.
