In a bid to bring services closer to the public, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) will from next year start distributing its public documents, including driving licenses and logbooks, to the public through the Postal Corporation of Kenya.

The agreement, which was signed by NTSA Director-General George Njao and PCK head Dan Kagwe, will be implemented in the coming days.

“Because of logistical issues, we could not roll out immediately but everything is almost in place now," the director in charge of motor vehicle registration and licensing Mr Christopher Wanjau said.

Postal Corporation of Kenya said the services will come with charges depending on distance.

Mr Njao said NTSA is keen on taking services closer to the public.

Service delivery

“We are moving towards the implementation of the same day service delivery directive by the president,” Mr Njao said, explaining that the public will also be in a position to monitor and track the documents because they will be system-controlled.

He also said the strategic partnership with Postal Corporation of Kenya would help NTSA decongest its premises.

All shipments will be processed and tracked through the corporation’s Post Global System or any other system developed by the corporation for the purpose.

The partnership comes at a time when Postal Corporation of Kenya is establishing itself as the ideal delivery partner for government agencies.

The corporation is mandated to provide accessible, affordable and reliable postal services to all parts of Kenya as per the PCK Act (1998).

Currently, the corporation is a key partner of the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government and Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) on last-mile delivery of passports and distribution of drugs to support the Universal Health Service to citizens among others.
