The son of the late powerful Cabinet Minister Mbiyu Koinange is dead.

Mr David Waiganjo Koinange died on Thursday night when his car rolled on Mau Narok-Nakuru road as he drove to his home.

“Mr Waiganjo died in a grisly road accident at around 9pm on Thursday night while driving from Nakuru. He was going back to his Muthera farm when the accident occurred,” said Njoro Sub-County Police Commander Mohammed Huka.

The accident occurred after one of the rear tyres burst and the vehicle rolled several times.

Mr Huka said Mr Waiganjo was alone in his Range Rover, which was extensively damaged. It was towed to the Mau Narok Police Station.

“The vehicle is completely written off,” said Mr Huka.

The body was taken to the Egerton University mortuary.

Mr Waiganjo’s death comes exactly 39 years after the death of his father on September 3, 1981.

Mr Waiganjo was a prominent farmer in Mau Narok and leased his land to smallholder farmers from Nakuru and Nyandarua to grow carrots, potatoes and beans among other crops.

He once turned down a Sh300 million-offer to lease the land to five Chinese investors for the entire Muthera farm, which is more than 4,900 acres.
