Kenyan IT graduate dies in US hospital

A Kenyan who was fighting for his life in the Intensive Care Unit of a US hospital has died.
According to a spokesperson at Kennestone Hospital in Marietta, Georgia, Alfred Mugo Kimonye, 39, passed away early Sunday morning.
On Thursday, the hospital had sent an SOS seeking anyone with information on Mugo’s next-of-kin. Spokesperson Meredith Viav described him as “critically ill.”
On Friday, soon after the Nation published the story online, Mr Mugo’s mother called the hospital from Nairobi and said the family would travel to the US as requested.
HOMELESS KENYAN
Mr Mugo had been in the hospital’s ICU for several days. He was admitted at the hospital on October 1 suffering from lung infection. He suffered cardiac arrest earlier this week and was taken to the ICU where he later died.
Mr Mugo was a graduate of Information Technology (IT) from Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia, and had worked for Apple Corporation in Atlanta.
A former college mate said Mr Mugo lived in the streets together with another homeless Kenyan.
“It is no secret that he became destitute after losing his job at Apple and lived on Franklin Road in Marietta together with other homeless persons,” he said on Saturday morning.
The hospital has informed Mr Mugo’s family of his death.
