The Council of Governors has formed a burial committee for Nyamira county boss John Obiero Nyagarama who died at Nairobi Hospital yesterday morning.

The team, made up of four people picked from counties bordering Nyamira, will be chaired by Kisii Governor James Ongwae.

Governors will hold a meeting at the Nyagarama Karen residence tomorrow mid-day to come up with a tentative date for the burial.

“We are yet to confirm the burial date because some of the Nyagarama children are abroad,” Nyamira Senator Kennedy Okong’o told journalists yesterday.

“One is India, two in Britain and one in the United States.”

The lawmaker added that another committee comprising leaders from the region has been formed and will be chaired by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i and Mr Ongwae.

Council of Governors chairman Wycliffe Oparanya said Mr Nyagarama was a brilliant policy maker.

“He was a very committed leader and held to his Christian values,” Mr Oparanya said at Lee Funeral Home in Nairobi.

“He used to lead us in prayer before and after the council meetings.”

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said Mr Nyagarama was “a humble man with a wonderful demeanour”.

“I can only tell the people of Nyamira that they can rise again and walk together as one,” Mr Kahiga said.

Mr Nyagarama was a member of the Education and Agriculture committees in the Council of Governors during his first and second terms.
