  • They began receiving their letters signed by the Cabinet Secretary, Prof George Magoha, on Monday.
  • Dr Tarno, rewarded because of his success at RVTTI, takes over from Mrs Hilda Omwoyo.
  • Dr Juan said the changes are meant to transform the sector, which is critical to the success of the competency-based curriculum.

The government has transferred 53 principals in vocational training institutions in a major shake-up as colleges prepare for reopening countrywide.

The Ministry of Education effected the changes yesterday with most of the affected being heads who had served in one institution for too long.

Rift Valley Technical Training Institute (RVTTI) principal Edwin Tarno has been promoted to head the Kenya Technical Training Institute (KTTI).

“The principals will start reporting to their new stations from tomorrow,” said Principal Secretary Julius Juan.

They began receiving their letters signed by the Cabinet Secretary, Prof George Magoha, on Monday.

Dr Tarno, rewarded because of his success at RVTTI, takes over from Mrs Hilda Omwoyo, who has been moved to PC Kinyanjui. Dr Tarno turned RVTTI into a centre of excellence where other institutions visit for benchmarking.

He created many income-generating activities to supplement its Appropriation-in-Aid, monies a public entity earns from fees it charges for services offered. Dr Juan said the changes are meant to transform the sector, which is critical to the success of the competency-based curriculum.

“We are focusing on the transformation of the TVETs so that the youths can feel proud to be part of it. The country requires well planned and vibrant TVETs because the success of CBC depends on it,” Dr Juan said.
