DP William Ruto to lead nation in marking Jomo Kenyatta's anniversary

Deputy President William Ruto is Thursday expected to lead the nation in observing the 35th anniversary of the death of Kenya's founding father Jomo Kenyatta.

Mr Ruto will lay a wreath at the Jomo Kenyatta's mausoleum at Parliament Buildings at 10.00am.

The Deputy President will later join Kenyatta's family and the public at the Holy Family Minor Basilica for a memorial service scheduled to start at 10.30 am.

Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya's first president, died in his sleep on the night of August 22, 1978.

His vice president Daniel Moi took over and went on to rule the country for 24 years.
