A Kenyan man has died of a gunshot wound in California, US.

Randy Kamau Kimani, 22, had been rushed to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in critical condition but succumbed to his injury.

Police did not disclose details of the shooting that happened on Tuesday last week but said the matter was under investigation.

The Riverside County Sheriff's department, however, told the Nation that last month Kimani had been arrested and charged with three counts of driving under the influence of alcohol, driving with a suspended license and petty theft.

“I can confirm to you that the deceased had been arrested on June 3 this year,” a spokesperson at the Sheriff’s office said in a phone interview.

On Friday, the family held prayers in Moreno Valley, California, followed by a fundraiser at Brookhurst Park in Anaheim, California, the next day.
