Interior and Co-ordination of National Government Cabinet Secretary Joseph ole Lenku has taken to court city lawyer Ahmednasir Abdullahi for allegedly defaming him and misusing social media.

Mr Lenku claims that Mr Abdullahi posted a defamatory tweet about him on Twitter and declined to send him an apology even after he gave him a notice requiring him to do so.

Through his lawyer Donald Kipkorir, the CS claims that Mr Abdullahi made serious and unsubstantiated allegations and as a result he needs to be prosecuted for misusing social media.

The said messages were allegedly posted between October 7 and November 2 2014 besides other publications in the Nairobi Law Monthly, Nairobi Business and a local Sunday newspaper.

Mr Lenku is seeking compensation for damages caused as well as a permanent injunction blocking anybody else from publishing the defamatory words against him.

“He knew and intended that these publications should be and will be re-published, in consequence, his reputation, credit and character have been brought into hatred, ridicule and contempt,” said Mr Kipkorir in the case documents.

Mr Lenku faults the lawyer for being the cause of the printing and publishing of libellous accusations over “land grabbing in some parts of Narok and Kajiado and on the Karen land scandal being just the tip in the iceberg.”

According to the CS, the defamatory words published portrayed him as a land grabber, one who does not understand or respect a legally obtained title deed, a racist, one who does not understand powers and structures of the Police Service and therefore needs to be sacked from his position.
