Covid-19 infections go up as four patients succumb

Covid-19 infections in Kenya have risen to 93,405 after 552 people from a simple size of 7,013 tested positive to the virus in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Health Ministry said on Thursday.

The country has also reported 596 new recoveries from the virus within the same period of time, pushing cumulative national recoveries to 74,999.

From the latest recoveries, 484 patients were from home-based care programme while 112 have been discharged from various hospitals, the ministry said.

Meanwhile, four patients have succumbed to the virus in the last 24 hours taking the national death toll to 1,618.

The new cases comprise 529 Kenyans and 23 foreigners with 366 being male while 206 are female.

The youngest is a one-year-old baby while the oldest is 93.

Nairobi County (222) had the highest number of new infections, followed by Mombasa 46, Homa Bay 33, Lamu 25, Nakuru 23, Taita Taveta 21, Kilifi 21, Nyeri 18, Kiambu 14, Turkana 13, Siaya 13, Embu 12 and Kakamega 11.

Other new infections were reported in Murang'a 9, Laikipia, Machakos 8, Kitui 7, Bungoma 5, Kisumu 5, Kwale 4, Garissa 4, Vihiga 4, Kericho 3, Narok 3, Bomet 3, Meru 3, Makueni 2, Baringo 2, Kisii 2 and Marsabit 2.

Tana River, Kajiado, Nyamira, Kirinyaga and Mandera counties each reported a single new infection.
