Kenya records 14 deaths as fatalities rise to 1,582

The country has today recorded 14 more deaths bringing the total number of Kenyans who have succumbed to Covid-19 to 1,582.

The number of cases in Kenya also increased by 673 to 90,978 on Friday after the testing of 8,230 samples in the past 24 hours.

At the same time, total recoveries in the country now stand at 71,579 following the recovery of 325 patients in the last 24 hours.

The latest recoveries comprise 258 patients who were on home-based care programme and 67 who have been discharged from various hospitals.

From the total cases, 645 are Kenyans while 28 are foreigners. In terms of gender, 367 are males while 276 are females, with the youngest being a five-month-old baby and the oldest 86. 

According to the Ministry of Health’s daily tally on Covid-19, 992 patients are receiving treatment across health facilities in the country while 7,887 are under home-based care.

“Forty fivepatients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 of whom are on ventilatory support and 18 on supplementary oxygen. One is on observation,” said Health Cabinet Secretary, Mutahi Kagwe in a statement to newsrooms.

Another 52 patients are supplemental oxygen out of whom 44 are in the general wards and eight are in high dependency units (HDU), the Ministry added.

Nairobi County had the highest number of cases at 211, followed by Nakuru with 311, Kilifi 61, Busia 41, Migori 34, Bungoma 33, while Mombasa had 21, Kiambu 21, Kakamega and Nyeri 17, Nyamira 15, Meru and Kirinyaga 12. The other counties that recorded new cases had below 10 positive cases.

Kenya, which reported its first case of the disease on March 13, had tested 960,364 people by December 11.
