The method or formula of making Coca-Cola constitutes a trade secret that the company has kept safely.

Even as controversy arises on cancer-causing claims of the Coca-Cola company’s flagship product, the formula remains one of the best kept secrets in the world.

Coca-Cola’s secret formula has been a major source of brand power for the beverage maker.

In December last year, Coca-Cola Co moved the 125-year-old secret formula for its soft drink to its hometown attraction, the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta, where it will be housed permanently for the public to view.

The formula had been in a vault at the SunTrust Bank in Atlanta for more than 86 years. (READ: Coca-Cola should do more)

Here, they opened an exhibit called The Vault of the Secret Formula but still could not make public the contents of the formula.

Coca-Cola was created in 1886 in Atlanta, Georgia, by Dr John S. Pemberton.

According to the company website, the drink was first offered as a fountain beverage at Jacob’s Pharmacy by mixing Coca-Cola syrup with carbonated water.

It is only available in the cola flavour and was patented in 1887, registered as a trademark in 1893 and, by 1895, it was being sold in every state and territory in the United States.

In 1899, The Coca-Cola Company began franchised bottling operations in the United States.

“The Coca-Cola Company cares about its consumers and is committed to providing a variety of beverage products, complete with factual, meaningful and understandable nutrition information that motivates and empowers consumers to make informed dietary choices,” the company says on its website on the nutrition labels present on their products.

“We follow nutrition labelling requirements in the countries where our products are sold, and in many places, we exceed these requirements,” the company says.
