Musician Colonel Mustafa does not like being termed broke, especially over a personal decision to ride a matatu rather than travel by private means. Allegations that the “Dodoma Singida” artiste is broke arose when he put up two pictures on Instagram showing him and his girlfriend inside a matatu. He captioned the photos: “Mpenzi usichoke, ni hali ya maisha.” And, “Tuko ndani ya matatu... kusota nayo”.

Speaking to Showbuzz, Mustafa jokingly said, “Being broke is swag.” Then, on a serious note, he added that he was unhappy with the rumours.

“What do they mean I’m broke? I’m performing on Saturday and I’m being paid very well, for that matter,” he said, referring to “The Plot” concert that was planned for yesterday.

“Will music ever grow in this country with all this negativity? I felt like taking a matatu and so I did. If I want to take a boda boda too, nothing will stop me. There is no chopper or superstar business here,” he said.
