The Koromosho Falls, some 25 kilometres to the west of Eldoret, is where the River Sosiani plunges 70 metres from the flat fertile plateau over a granite escarpment.

It is only the sound of the water that betrays the falls, hidden in a mass of rocks and trees.

From the high rocks downstream, one can see a big cave behind the falling waters where residents say some animals live.

The winding V-shaped valley cut by the Sosiani adds to the beauty of the scene.

From the river bed, the valley rises on both sides some 120 metres and ends only 50 kilometres downstream after Ndalat Hills near Kapkaren.

Upstream, Ken Gen has built a dam to trap the river and divert it through a canal to turbines which generate electricity whenever the water is overflowing during the rains.

Potential exists for the new county to exploit the natural waterfall similar to the Nabuyole Falls on the Nzoia in Webuye, Bungoma.

The Sosiani whose source is Kaptagat Forest in Keiyo 80 kilometres east of Eldoret pours into the Nzoia. But Koromosho is both a scenic site with huge potential for tourism and a scene of tragedy.

Three students died last year after slipping on the rocks and crashing 70 metres down the falls into the pool below.

One was from Moi University, another from the Chepkoilel campus of the same university and the third a Standard Six pupil from a local school.
