Suspected serial killer Geoffrey Matheri told investigators he was instructed by a clergyman to kill and drink the blood of his victims, a court heard on Tuesday.
Detective Calistas Mwauko said Matheri, alias Fongo, claimed he was recruited into a cult while he was a street boy in Naivasha Town.
CONFESSED TO DCI OFFICERS
The detective, who was testifying in a murder case against Matheri, told Justice Maureen Odero that he confessed to DCI officers that he had been initiated into the cult by a clergyman who runs a church in the town.
Matheri has denied killing Ms Naomi Wairimu on August 14, 2008 at his house on the outskirts of Naivasha Town.
“The accused, who is serving a four-year jail term for kidnapping, said he was drilled to abduct women, kill them and drink their blood,” Mr Mwauko said.
CHILLING NARRATION
Mr Mwauko also gave a chilling account of how police and public health officers exhumed an unidentified woman’s decomposing body from a shallow grave behind Matheri’s house.
He said the walls of the single room were splattered with blood.
The detective said the accused told them the body was that of his girlfriend.
He added that more human remains were discovered under Matheri’s bed. Mr Mwauko said police found clubs, a whip, tattered mattresses, female clothes, a knife and other assorted items suspected to have been used in committing murder.
Dr Joseph Njue, a psychiatrist who examined Matheri, told the court he was of sound mind and was fit to stand trial.
State Counsel Nancy Ngovi said more witnesses would be called to testify in the case.
Hearing will continue on October 2.
