Three remandees escape from police cell in Narok

DCI is questioning the police officers in Narok who were on duty when the remandees prisoners escaped from a cell.

Three police officers were on Saturday arrested after three remandees escaped from lawful custody at the Kilgoris police station.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Narok said the policemen constables Andrew Bett, Jalaus Okoa and corporal Carlmax Okello were arrested after the remandees escaped on Friday night.

Narok County Criminal Investigations Officer Mwenda Ethaiba said the detainees escaped from the police cells by drilling a hole on the wall and escaped into the nearby Kilgoris township.

Top police officers visited the scene at the station where the suspects Shadrack Leparan, 29, who is a murder suspect, Enock Ndege, 28 and Patrick Mausa, 32, were being held.

The were set to be arraigned on Monday.

Detectives said the policemen, who were on duty on Friday night, will have to explain how the remandees escaped from the cell.
