A man has moved to the High Court in Nakuru seeking to free his lover from a rehabilitation centre, where she was reportedly forcibly detained.

Mr Warren Nyanjom, a resident of Nairobi, is seeking orders compelling the John Mututho Empowerment Centre to release Ms Georgina Jebet Menye.

Mr Nyanjom has accused the institution of forcibly holding his fiancé incommunicado without her consent or that of her guardians.

In his petition before Justice Hillary Chemitei, Mr Nyanjom claims that the facility acted illegally by detaining his 25-year-old girlfriend for alleged rehabilitation without proof of need for confinement.

“Georgina continues to undergo physical and psychological torture since she has been held in a facility that mainly deals with rehabilitation for persons with alcoholic addiction or mental instability yet she is in perfect condition...,” Mr Nyanjom said.

He told the court that officers from the rehab centre forcefully took his lover from her home in Kampi ya Moto, Eldama Ravine, and admitted her to the facility on November 5.
