A man died on Tuesday evening after he slipped from a bridge and fell into a river in the outskirts of Molo town.

Michina assistant chief Kennedy Kiago said the 64-year-old victim was walking home along the railway line when the accident happened at around 5pm.

"The victim was walking alone on the bride built during the colonial period. He died on the spot," said Mr Kiago.

The administrator said similar deaths have been reported on the same bridge in the past six years.

Mr Kiago urged residents to use the main road which is adjacent to the bridge and not the railway line.

Mr Joseph Wanjohi, a resident, said he prefers walking along the railway because the state of the road is poor especially during the rainy season.

The body of the elderly man was taken to Molo sub-county mortuary.
