Detectives are investigating an incident where a robbery with violence suspect is said to have died by suicide at Nyatieko police station in Kitutu Chache South, Kisii on Sunday night.

24-year-old David Ondari was arrested on Friday November 19 for allegedly stealing a motorbike valued at Sh124,000.

Plans were underway to arraign him in court on Monday until his body was found dangling from the roof of the police cells at around 10.15pm Sunday.

According to a police report, the deceased had used his belt.

“While on report office and cell duties, officers Lucy Njeri Kimani and Emmanuel Koech made a cell visit and upon checking...they found out that he had committed suicide using a belt,” part of the report seen by the Nation said.

The duo alerted their colleagues who rushed to the scene. Thereafter, the scene of crime was visited and documented by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other top officers drawn from Kisii County.

The body was taken to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital (KTRH) morgue awaiting post-mortem.

County Commander Francis Kooli said the matter is under investigation.
