Police arrest bishop over defilement of 12-year-old kin

Police in Homa Bay County are holding a 50-year-old Bishop accused of sexually abusing his 12-year-old step-daughter while her mother was away on a trip.

The man was arrested following a medical examination that confirmed that the girl, a class seven pupil, had been defiled.

She revealed that she had been abused by him multiple times while her mother was away attending a funeral last week.

The incident happened in Komuoyo village in Kasewe A sub-location, Rachuonyo East.

The minor reported that the abuse took place between Wednesday and Friday. Her mother is said to have questioned her after noticing that she had difficulties walking.

The cleric was arrested on Wednesday.

THREATS

The suspect is said to have threatened the woman and her daughter against reporting the matter to the police, saying he would send the woman away and beat up her daughter if they talked.

However, a neighbor who was privy to the happenings after the woman confided in her alerted authorities who swung to action by carrying out an investigation, before arresting the cleric.

Rachuonyo East Deputy County Commissioner Jack Obuo confirmed the arrest.

“They were both taken to the hospital for medical examination which revealed that the girl was defiled. The suspect was taken to Othoro police station,” Mr Obuo said.

He said the suspect will be arraigned in court this week.
