Health officials in Bungoma County have reported three deaths linked to Covid-19 in the last three days.

Bungoma public health director Moses Wambusi said the victims died in different hospitals in the county.

Addressing the press in Bungoma town, Wambusi said that all the victims were male and that they were above 50 years old.

Wambusi said one of the victims was confirmed to be Covid-19 positive after death.

At the same time, the health official said a total of 87 samples have been taken for testing at Friend’s School Kamusinga in Kimilili. He said the tests will be conducted at the Kemri laboratories in Eldoret.

Two weeks ago, the county health and sanitation executive Dr Antony Walela said that 118 inmates at the Bungoma GK Prison had contracted the virus.

“Majority of them have been isolated in a different room and are being monitored by our officers to stop them from infecting other prisoners,” he said.

Last week, Bungoma governor Wycliffe Wangamati dismissed claims that he had contracted the virus.

The governor’s press unit reported that two Bungoma employees are in hospital after getting infected with the virus.
