Parliament team lauds Sh1.45tn Budget

The chairman of the Parliamentary Budget Committee has supported the national Budget, which was read on Thursday by Finance minister Njeru Githae.

Mr Elias Mbau termed it as people-friendly and one which took into consideration the views of wananchi (citizens) in a balanced manner.

The Maragua legislator said yesterday that the Sh1.45 trillion Budget was a great improvement compared to those of previous years and had taken care of the most crucial and important sectors of the economy.

“I can say that was a well-balanced Budget aimed at benefitting the common mwananchi, and redistributing wealth with areas that have less benefiting from those that have more.
He said the Budget would go a long way in taking care of devolved governments created by the new Constitution.

The MP hailed the allocation of money towards health, agriculture and education, saying those were priority areas and that the minister was on point in considering such sectors.

On Thursday, Mr Githae allocated Sh233.1 billion towards education and another Sh8 billion towards irrigation. The finance minister likewise gave Sh85 billion for health improvement.

The minster, however, introduced taxation on landlords saying that they had missed paying tax for a long time.
