Angry coffee farmers in Mathira, Nyeri County, barricaded a section of Karatina-Nairobi Highway on Thursday, paralysing transport in the busy Karatina Town.

The farmers said they were protesting over low payment for their crop.

Police lobbed tear gas to disperse the demonstrators who had also blocked Nyeri Police County Commander Benjamin Rotich, who was on transit to Nairobi.
