Olunga wins October/November Player of the Month award in Qatar

Harambee Stars Captain Michael “Engineer” Olunga has on Sunday been voted the Best Player for October/November in the 2021/22 Qatar Stars League.

The 27-year-old centre forward played five matches for his employers Al Duhail between October 17 and November 3 and scored five goals. He played full minutes against Al Rayyan (October 17), Al Wakrah (October 21), Al Shamal (October 25), Qatar SC (October 30) and league leaders Al Sadd (November 3) for a total of 492 minutes.

Olunga, who recently bagged the Asian Champions League top scorers award, got a goal against Al Rayyan when his side welcomed Colombian former Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Everton star James Rodriguez with a 3-0 mauling.

Rodriguez had just joined Rayyan from English Premier League side Everton. Olunga also grabbed one goal in 1-0 win against Al Shamal and scored again in 2-1 win over Qatar SC. He got a brace in the six-goal top-of-the-table thriller against Al Sadd which ended 3-3.

This is the first time Olunga has won the award since transferring to the Qatar Stars League from Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol on January 12 this year.

The award for the Best Coach for October/November has been won by Al Arabi’s Younes Ali whose side bagged three wins in the five matches played during that spell. Al Gharafa’s Saifeldeen Fadlalla emerged the best Under-23 player for the same month.
