Kenya has confirmed 156 more cases of the novel coronavirus, pushing the number of confirmed cases to 96,614.

The new cases are from 4,317 samples tested in the last 24 hours, according to Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe.

The new cases comprise 142 Kenyans and 14 foreigners, of whom 96 are male and 60 female. The youngest is a seven-month-old infant while the oldest is 78.

The CS on Friday said 11 more patients had succumbed to Covid-19 related complications in the last 24 hours, raising the death toll to 1,681.

Mr Kagwe, on the other hand, reported 65 recoveries, raising the tally for national recoveries to 78,802.

Home-based care

From the latest recoveries, 61 are from home-based care while four have been discharged from various hospitals across the country.

Currently, there are 661 patients admitted in various health facilities countywide while 2,960 are on home-based care.

There are 28 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 14 of whom are on ventilatory support while 11 are on supplemental oxygen. Three patients are on observation.

Another 19 patients are separately on supplementary oxygen out of whom 19 are in the general wards. There are no patients in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
