DPP Haji orders probe into remarks by Senator Linturi at DP Ruto mega rally

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji has directed Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to investigate utterances made by Meru Senator Mithika Linturi on Saturday January 8.
In a statement, seen by Nation.Africa, Mr Haji says the remarks by the Senator “could incite feelings of contempt, hatred, hostility, violence or discrimination.”
“My attention has been drawn to a video clip circulating on social platforms portraying Mithika Linturi allegedly addressing a crowd and stating that “- watu wa Uasin Gishu msicheze na wakenya. Nawaomba kwamba madoadoa mliyo nayo hapa muweze kuondoa…” the statement reads in part.
The remarks, as quoted by the ODPP, loosely translate to ‘I urge you to do away with those who do not align with your affiliations.’
Madoadoa, Kiswahili for spots, is an emotive term in the country’s political scene as it is associated with politically instigated ethnic violence in the past.
The Senator was speaking in Eldoret at a rally organised by the Deputy President William Ruto to flag off his presidential campaigns ahead of the 2022 elections.
The DPP further directed that the Police IG submits the investigation report to his office (the ODPP) before Friday January 14.
