The battle over ownership of a vast military land in Uasin Gishu has taken a new twist, after detectives on Thursday evening arrested a man said to have forged a title deed for the over 2000 acres belonging to the Eldoret bullet factory.

The man, Wilson Too, is being held at Eldoret Police Station, according to detectives, and will appear in court on Friday morning to answer charges of fraud and forging documents.

He is alleged to have sold part of the bullet factory land to Leseru Tebeson Farmers Society jointly with others who this evening evaded arrest.

The controversial multi-million shilling land in Maili Tisa is also claimed by Kenya Defence Forces which uses the land for training.

According to the charge sheet, Mr Too will be charged with making a false document purporting to be a letter signed by Col J.W. Michie and a deed plan No 380885 said to have been signed by a Mr J. Kibiru, a deed plan officer at Director of Survey’s office.

For years now, the Kenya Defence Forces has been tussling with the 1,200 members of Leseru Tebeson Farmers Society who claim ownership of more than 2,000 acres near Moi Barracks in Uasin Gishu. The members claim to have been allocated the land by the Ministry of Lands in 2006 and paid millions of shillings for it.

While an Eldoret Judge Millicent Odeny had in February ordered that the Society remains in occupation of the land until the matter was heard and determined by the court, the National Land Commission had also ordered the revocation of any letters of award or title deeds and restoration of the land to KDF.

It also vested the land to the principal secretary, Ministry of Defence.
