A 21-year-old woman accused of hacking her lover to death was on Tuesday charged with murder.

Branswet Wambui Muchiri, who appeared before Justice Hillary Chemitei, was charged with killing John Mwangi in their rented house at Bismark estate in Nakuru County on October 21.

The charge sheet says she stabbed him in the neck using a knife.

Ms Wambui denied the charge and pleaded with the court for reasonable bond terms.

Through her lawyer Kairu Maina, she promised not to interfere with witnesses and to honour court dates.

Justice Chemitei released herr on a Sh 800,000 bond with a surety of the same amount or Sh 300,000 cash bail.

Police report

The suspect is said to have picked a quarrel with her boyfriend before grabbing a knife and stabbing him several times, killing him instantly.

Police say she earlier filed a report claiming Mr Mwangi died by suicide and that she and others did not arrive in time to save him.

However, a postmortem revealed Mr Mwangi died as a result of excessive bleeding caused by stab wounds.

From the scene, police collected a knife they believe was the murder weapon.

The suspect was charged after a psychiatric examination revealed she was fit to stand trial.

The case will be mentioned on February 8.
