A teacher in Mombasa has been charged with falsely obtaining money from a citizen to register him for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination as a private candidate.

Mr Kevin Nyadhi, said to be a secondary school teacher, is accused of obtaining Sh8,000 from Mr Hassan Kamanza with a promise to register him for KCSE which is scheduled for November 2.

According to the charge sheet, the man, with intent to defraud, obtained the money from Mr Kamanza on March 18 at Tudor in Mombasa.

Mr Nyadhi, who appeared before Mombasa Resident Magistrate Erick Mutunga, denied committing the offence.

The accused defended himself, saying there was no way he could have collected the money as that was not his responsibility. “It is not true that I received the cash from the complainant,” he said.

Mr Nyadhi was released on a Sh100,000 bond with one surety of a similar amount.

The case will be heard on October 25.
