Migori court frees on bond teacher who beat his daughter to death

The High Court in Migori has declined an application by detectives to hold a secondary school headteacher who allegedly beat up his daughter to death after he found her with a boyfriend.
Chief Magistrate Dickens Onyango released Mr Abidha Rabet on a Sh500,000 bond with one surety.
The court also directed the suspect to be reporting to the Uriri DCI office on a daily basis until July 6 when the case will be mentioned.
When Mr Rabet appeared in court on Monday, he did not take plea after investigating officers sought for 10 more days to wind up investigations.
MURDER CHARGES
According to the school head’s lawyer Kerario Mwita, police had pressed murder charges against him but sought for more time to finish investigations.
The wanted that he be held in custody for 10 days, a move that was challenged by the defence lawyer.
“The police presented an application seeking to hold my client for 10 more days but we argued against the affidavit as there was no reason to have him held for that long. The court has granted him a Sh500,000 bond with one surety,” Mr Kerario told Nation outside the Migori High Court on Monday.
“We will be able to know which charges will be pressed against him when the matter comes for mention. As at know, the application to hold him has been disallowed and he has been released on bond. The police should wind up their investigation and press the charges when he appears in court since they have enough time,” Mr Kerario said.

Last week, the headteacher allegedly found his 17-year-old daughter inside the house of her boyfriend and descended on her with a cooking stick beating her senseless.
The girl passed out and was taken to Neo Care Centre for first aid. She was later moved to Migori County Referral Hospital after her condition worsened.
Neighbours who witnessed the Thursday night incident said Mr Rabet also clobbered the man who was with his daughter before he managed to escape.
The girl, who was a Form Four student, died at the referral hospital.
Uriri Sub-County Police Boss Peter Njoroge told the Nation that some relatives of the victim tried to secretly bury the girl’s body.
They were intercepted in Homa Bay while on their way to Bondo for burial by police who were acting on a tip-off, Mr Njoroge said.
“We coordinated with police manning a roadblock in Homa Bay town and intercepted the vehicle which was heading to Bondo. They intended to inter the body secretly,” Mr Njoroge said.
