Outgoing Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Simba Arati is the Kisii County governor-elect.

Kisii County Returning Officer Michael Kosgei declared Mr Arati who vied on an Orange Democratic Movement ticket, the winner at the Kisii National Polytechnic on Friday.

Mr Arati garnered 270, 928 votes. He was followed by Ezekiel Machogu (UDA) 82, 104, Manson Nyamweya 32, 537.

Outgoing Kisii Governor James Ongwae, who has viciously fought Mr Arati, has congratulated the incoming governor.

"Congratulations Simba Arati and the entire team that won all elective seats in Kisii County to ward level. Mine is to wish you good health and best wishes as you embark on the journey of fulfilling your promises and manifesto to the people of Kisii County," said Mr Ongwae.

Prof Sam Ongeri (DAP-K) who garnered 3, 782 votes and Bishop Josiah Onyancha (Independent) who got 889 votes have conceded defeat.

"There is always a winner and a loser and I am here to say that I did not perform very well. I concede defeat and congratulate you for your win," Prof Ongeri told Mr Arati as they shook hands.

Mr Arati has asked his competitors to help develop the county.

"Whatever you want to do for the county, let's join hands and help me grow our county. It was politics and it is now time to work," said Mr Arati.

He asked striking medics in the county to resume work. He, however, noted that his government will not condone corruption.
