The controversy surrounding the transfer of all the nine teachers of Nyakemincha Primary School in Nyamira County took a new twist Thursday after their replacements declined to take up their new jobs.

Nyamira South Sub-County education officer Titus Mbata on Thursday said the new teachers were reluctant to teach at Nyakemincha because of the myriad of challenges it faces and its bad reputation.

The school was at one time in the spotlight for the wrong reasons after it was ranked last in the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education examinations five years ago.

Ironically, Nyakemincha means "of the tail" in the Kisii language.

Parents went home with the pupils despite pleas from school committee chairman Joshua Mogaka Obiero and treasurer Johnson Oiti Ondego not to do so.
