An 11-year-old boy was on Sunday found dead in Kaitheri village in Kirinyaga County and is suspected to have committed suicide.

The body was found dangling from the roof of his parents' house in the morning.

His mother said she was at a local hotel where she works when she was informed of her son's death.

“On receiving the information, I rushed to the house and found my son dead with an electricity cable round his neck," she said.

She said she suspected foul play and called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to get to the bottom of the matter.

“I was shocked when I saw my son's lifeless body. It is suspected he committed suicide but I doubt it," she added.

He told relatives to be patient as investigations had been commenced with a view to establishing the cause of death of the Standard Four pupil.

“We would like to find whether the boy killed himself or not," he said.
