Police in Isiolo net 12,000 litres of illicit alcohol in morning raid

Police have impounded more than 12,000 litres of illicit brew during a morning raid in Isiolo market.

Three people were arrested during the operation in which equipment used to make kangara and chang’aa was destroyed.

Isiolo Deputy County Commissioner Otieno Okitch, who led the exercise, said the brewers were from the neighbouring Meru County, Shambani and Bulla Pesa areas in Isiolo.

Mr Okitch said the area has been used for large scale production of illicit brew which is then transported to neighbouring counties for consumption.

“We received information from locals about the illegal business.

“We will intensify [the] crackdown on the illicit brew which has reoccurred in the area,” he said.

The administrator further directed chiefs and their assistants to intensify crackdowns within their jurisdictions.

He warned those involved in the illegal business that they will be arrested and prosecuted.
