Mr Majimbo Simiyu Kalasinga has bagged the Ford Kenya party nomination for the Kabuchai Constituency by-election slated for March 4, 2021.

Mr Kalasinga garnered 75 votes to beat Nakuru East DCC Erick Wanyonyi who got 30 votes.

A total of 105 delegates participated in the primaries that were presided over by Khadija Mustapha, the Ford Kenya national director of elections.

The nominations that attracted only two candidates were held at Kabuchai CDF hall at Musese market.

Mr Kalasinga, a businessman, thanked the delegates for the victory and promised to put the interests of Kabuchai people first if elected MP.

"I want to thank Wanyonyi who had given me a tough contest for conceding defeat and promising to walk with me in this journey," he said

He said that he will ensure that Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetang'ula is respected by clinching the seat that is in his backyard.

"We all know that Wetang’ula hails from here in Kabuchai and there are some individuals who are out to demean him and frustrate him as the lion's party boss. We want Kabuchai electorate to show them that Weta is a real man by winning this by-election very early in the morning," he said.

On his part, Mr Wetang’ula said that Ford Kenya is a party that believes in democracy and that is why the nomination was conducted openly.

"We did not sit in a room somewhere and picked a candidate the way others are doing," he said.

The Bungoma senator said that he is aware of plans by some individuals who are being used by outside forces to try and sabotage the unity of Ford Kenya, adding that they will not succeed.

He extended an olive hand to rebels in the party urging them to return to Ford Kenya and finish the race that was started by the late Jaramogi Oginga Odinga.

The Kabuchai seat fell vacant following the death of Mr James Mukwei Lusweti, who was a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto.

Pundits have opined that the by-election will be a contest between DP Ruto and Mr Wetang'ula.

Dr Ruto was a close friend of Mr Lusweti.
