Beer distributors without excise stamp get 2 month amnesty

Kenya Revenue Authority(KRA) has allowed manufacturers and distributors of imported beer without excise stamps to continue selling old stocks for the next two months.

KRA said that manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers of beer, as well as the general public risk arrest and subsequent prosecution for tax evasion if found with imported beer without an excise stamp affixed after June 2016.

“Distributors and retailers are therefore advised not to accept any beer, manufactured or imported after the 1st of February 2016 for distribution, sale or consumption without excise stamps affixed,” it said.

KRA added that after expiry of the amnesty period distributors and retailers shall declare and handover all imported beer products for to the respective manufacturers or importers for affixation of excise stamps and codes.
