Somalia's Minister of Planning, Investment and Economic Development, Mohamud Beenebeene (also known as Beenebeene), has welcomed the news that Puntland State has given the green light for the resumption of key development projects previously put on hold by Somalia's semi-autonomous state of Puntland.

"We are very excited about the resumption of the Barwaaqo and Somalia Food System Resilience Project (SFSRP) projects in Puntland, which represents a renewed commitment to improving the livelihoods of our people. These projects are critical to promoting sustainable development and ensuring a resilient future for all regions," the Minister said.

Mr Beenebeene also underlined the commitment of the Federal Government, under the leadership of President Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi, to remove any political influence from humanitarian and development efforts throughout Somalia. He stressed their commitment to ensuring full transparency and fairness in the implementation of these projects.

"The Federal Government of Somalia, under the leadership of President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, is committed to depoliticising humanitarian and development efforts across the country. We are committed to ensuring that these projects are implemented with the utmost transparency and equity, and reach those in need without political considerations," the Minister affirmed.

Somalia's Ministry of Planning, Investment and Economic Development spearheaded the launch of the Barwaaqo project in January 2023. The Somalia Food Systems Resilience Project (SFSRP) followed in June of the same year.

The Barwaaqo project, a large-scale water management and infrastructure development initiative, and the SFSRP projects are working together to strengthen food systems across Somalia's federal states.

Their aim is to ensure food security and promote sustainable agricultural practices. Both Barwaaqo and SFSRP were launched for all federal states, but Puntland unilaterally decided to suspend their implementation.

Over the past two years, Minister Beenebeene's Ministry of Planning has been busy implementing numerous projects in all federal states. These initiatives have been carefully designed to ensure balanced benefits for each region.
